Default Devastated Please help!!!

Hi my family have lost our adored cockatiel Nico on the 5/6/17 in the Medowie area of NSW AUSTRALIA. We've been walking up and down the street calling for him. We've also put up flyers everywhere and left his cage outside.
I'm really worried because the wild native birds are quite territorial and he might be scared off if he tries to come back home. It has also been raining a lot.
Does anyone have any advice on what to do??

If anyone happens to be from around this area and has any information or sightings please call on 0400776142
He talks and whistles, he loves teatowles and can be lured with food.

Oh how pretty your bird is! Well it sounds like you're doing the right things. I would add to not give up. Beside flyers around your area, add your bird to all the lost and found pet sites you can. Also inform the shelters and local avian vets. Your bird may show up at someone's feeder weeks from now so watch all the lost and founds daily.

Does your tiel have another companion? If so you may want to put his cage next to the empty cage ... perhaps his buddy will call him back.

Good luck. I hope Nico comes home soon!

This might seem stupid, but if you have any accounts on social media you might want to share all this there too. I know a lot of people who put pics of their lost pets on facebook, and they always manage to get them back. Also if you are willing, consider offering a generous award for the person who brings your pet back to you, because cockatiels are expensive birds and someone might decide to keep your cockatiel instead of returning it. They might even breed it and start a business as a breeder.

I can feel your pain as the very same thing has happened to us.

Pet shops and Vets are are another place you can leave flyers at.

Nearly all of them are willing to put a flyer in the window for a time. Some radio stations have a lost and found pets segment,so they are worth trying.

Its not unusual for the escaped bird to be attracted to someone elses caged birds,, or as has happened to a friend an escaped cockatiel landed on his shoulder when he was out walking.

Fingers crossed for you.

Oz

Really feel for you, I would let the RSPCA know and also the lost bird area in Gumtree.

Last year I was the recipient of a really well behaved tiel , she just turned up iside my garage. The two sites are the ones I monitored for some weeks as well as asking near neighbors. Best of luck in your search, I now realize how important they become in our lives.

I'm so sorry, I hope you get him back Please keep us updated. I would notify any vets in your area as well as animal rescue/shelter places and check in to see if he has turned up. Tell everyone you know and hope for the best. Really hoping you get him back!

It is a terrible thing to lose a beloved cockatiel! I lost my first cockatiel. She flew out on a late winter afternoon. It was December - cold here in Pennsylvania. It is much warmer where you are; your bird has a much better chance of surviving than my little girl did. I hope you will soon be reunited!
