Default Hello from Texas

Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a while, but I figured I should finally introduce myself. I have a pied, pastel face male cockatiel named Chip. He only has one gray patch: a "chip" on his shoulder. He's 7 months old and currently going through puberty. My boyfriend and I got him in February, but it feels like we've had him forever! He's very curious and affectionate with both of us, but he clearly favors my boyfriend and snuggles with him at every opportunity.

We got Chip because we had recently lost our old cockatiel, Calypso. We sort of inherited Calypso from my boyfriend's grandmother. He was around 23 years old when we got him (we don't know the exact age as he was caught as a feral bird in the wilds of east Texas). He had never been properly socialized and was absolutely terrified of hands. Neither of us had experience with pet birds, but we immediately fell in love with the grumpy fluff. We worked very hard with him and after a year and a half, he was taking treats from our hands and would come out of his cage to play on the coffee table every night. Unfortunately, old age caught up with him and he died in early January. The house was so empty and quiet (and clean), we just couldn't stand life without a cockatiel... so we started looking for local breeders, and that's how we found Chip.

We're doing our best to make sure that Chip has a long, happy life with us. I've already gotten lots of great ideas from this forum, so thanks to everyone for sharing your experience. I'm sure I'll keep returning for more advice and ideas as Chip grows up.
