Default Vitakraft Vitasmart Parakeet Mix?

(And other questions.)

I was wondering if this seed mix http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc..._LRhoCePbw_wcB looks okay. Of course, I would be feeding pellets and vegetables on top of that. I already feed this mix to my mice, so I always have it on hand, but I'd like to know if it seems fit for birds as well.

I can't seem to find exactly how often seeds need to be fed, and in what amount. Daily, every other day, or...?

I'm assuming pellets are a daily thing, and I'm also curious as to how many vegetables are necessary for one 'tiel.

I'd also like to know what diet your cockatiel eats. It differs from person to person, and bird to bird for that matter, but I'm curious nonetheless.

Thanks,

That mix looks okay to me. My 'tiels actually prefer budgie seed over the seed mixes marketed at cockatiels because they would rather eat small seeds than big chunky ones. Seed and pellets should be available at all times, as 'tiels are foragers and eat little and often throughout the day. A variety of veggies offered daily such as broccoli, kale, spinach, silverbeet, carrots, peas and corn are good. I tend to offer two or three kinds of veggie a day and rotate it so they don't get bored of one particular type. Hope this helps!

It looks okay. Like the poster above, I tend to feed a mix marketed towards budgies and smaller parakeets. I leave pellets and/or seeds out free choice all day, although I start pulling the seeds for part of the day if they are ignoring their pellets.
I give fresh foods in the am and sometimes again in the pm: kale, spinach, dandelion leaves, sprouted sunflower, pumpkin, safflower or other seeds, hard boiled egg, cooked sweet potatos, peas, broccoli, cooked lentils. I pull those out again after about an hour.
I also feed millet sprays occasionally.

Thanks! Both replies are extremely helpful.

Are seeds and pellets fed in equal parts, or one more than the other?

Thanks a lot! I've not been able to find this info anywhere else. This forum has been very helpful already. I'm grateful.

I feed equal parts in separate bowls. My flock love their pellets and tend to go for them over seed, so with a pickier 'tiel it may be recommended to have less seed available for a portion of the day so that they go for the pellets. And if you can get ahold of some Lafeber Nutriberries, these are always a hit and are as nutritious as pellets.

Regarding veggies, forgot to add: dandelion flowers and oregano are much loved by my flock!
