I have a 12 week old Tiel. I bout Spike of a Cockatiel only breeder of 30 years. He assured me it's a male. The inner wings are dark in colour and no spots. Are breeders always correct?
His doing great and very happy . Loves spending time out of cage more.
Because he's a baby you can't visually sex him until after his first molt. http://talkcockatiels.com/showthread.php?t=18307 You can attempt wing spot sexing, I'm just not very good at it and trust DNA testing more than it.
It might be a male judging by the brightness of the orange patch however it's impossible to tell until after the first molt. Female 'tiels have the baring on the tail for the most part I think.
Is it tame at all?
Whatever it is ... so cute. I wish I could have a young cockatiel, only had a young one once and it went missing.
The only way the breeder would know it's a male is if they were able to nest sex (eg father cinnamon, mother normal grey etc) otherwise it's really just guessing
Just an fyi, the cheek patch brightness has nothing to do with gender.
It's a very cute baby, only time will really tell on gender.
