The one with the chew box made me chuckle. Oscar kept disappearing into our attic room where our son used to sleep. He would swoop onto your head when you walked up the stairs and I didn't know where he had been. Then one day I saw him at the back of a shelf and there was a seriously shredded box he must have been chewing for a few weeks. He also has a habit of going behind the TV and one night the picture went. On inspection he had chewed through the power cable for the satellite box. Not just the black outer but also the inner blue, a total of about 12" in length. A very lucky boy!

Cheery ,
Your bird certainly had a close call.
We have chew boxes -old kleenex boxes in every room where the birds hangout.

I am careful when they are around the computer and have armoured the cables with spiral wrap. I have chewable bottle brush tree perches in the cage, cuttle fish shells and a chew box.

Its a fact of life for them- they must chew to keep their beak in trim. A little bit of household damage is inconsequential stacked against a deformed beak. However I recognised early on that you cannot leave alone birds alone for any length of time as they will get quickly into mischief.

Aussie189,
your bird has that gleam into his eye- he is ready for mischief as well.

Hi - like other 'tiels, Bennie loves to chew, too. I have a wooden dish drainer where he likes to sit as I wash dishes. He likes to chew on the corners of that. Of course, he can't shred that as well as paper or cardboard, but he manages to fray the corners a bit. He gets upset when I invade "his" space with a dish or plate to put on the drainer. He also sneaks behind it to my ceramic canisters to find any recipe cards I may have left there.
