Question Mark 'tiel wont sit on perches??

I got my cockatiel, Jenson, about 6 weeks ago.
There are 3 or 4 different perches in his cage but he always sits on the cage floor and only goes onto the bottom perch to eat or drink.
Is it normal for a cockatiel to do this? I have read that he may be sick if he is sitting continuously on the floor (which he is doing)
Apart from that his behaviour is normal and is always chirping and eating and drinking normally. Would someone be able to help?
Thanks!

Is he able to climb and perch on your finger? The reason sick birds sit on the floor is because they no longer can balance and are too weak to hold onto a perch. If he is not weak and his balance is fine and all other behaviors are normal then i'd bet you just have a strange bird.

You should hang some millet beside his perches to encourage him to perch. Or put a perch as low as you can get it in his cage. It could be that he was never taught to perch and he might need some encouragement from you.

if he is not puffy all the time, he is fine. tie some treats on perches, maybe that will help. you can also pick him up and place him on one of the perches and see whats wrong. also check his feet and make sure they are not cut or wounded.. hope that helps

Thanks for your replies. I have put some treats on the perches to see if that will encourage him!
